Introduced in 1981 as part of Minolta's final "New MD" generation — collectors know it as the MD III series — this 50mm f/1.7 was the standard nifty-fifty paired with cameras like the X-700, simplified in construction from its Rokkor-branded predecessors while keeping the same optical formula: six elements in five groups, with a six-blade aperture running from f/1.7 to f/22.

It mounts natively on Minolta's SR/MD bayonet, fitting virtually any Minolta SLR from the SR-T era onward.

Wide open it renders with the soft, warm character collectors often associate with Minolta's 50mm line, sharpening up nicely by f/4 with contrast that holds well across the frame. Close focus is 0.45m, filter size 49mm.

At just 165g and 64 x 36mm, it's genuinely pocketable. A dependable, unfussy standard lens — built by the thousands, and still holding up just as well today.
