Sony Cyber Shot WX7

Description:

Launched in 2011, the WX7 sat toward the top of Sony's Cyber-shot compact lineup that year, built around a 16.2-megapixel back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor — a 1/2.3-inch chip whose back-illuminated design was still fairly new to compacts at the time and noticeably improved low-light and high-ISO results over the sensors it replaced.

The fixed Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens covers a 25–125mm equivalent range (4.5–22.5mm actual, f/2.6–6.3) with 5x optical zoom, retracting flush into the body when powered off — there's no interchangeable mount here, as with any fixed-lens compact. Composition and playback run entirely through the 2.8-inch, 460,800-dot LCD on the back; the WX7 has no optical or electronic viewfinder.

Beyond the core specs: Full HD 1080/60i video, 10fps burst shooting, and 3D Sweep Panorama, which stitches multiple frames into a stereoscopic image. ISO runs from 100 to 3200, and at 120g and under 20mm thick, it disappears into a jacket pocket.

We like this one for exactly that reason: no Wi-Fi, no companion app, no menus to fuss over — just a capable little sensor-and-lens combination that still holds its own for casual, everyday shooting.
